The Company You Keep (Season 1 Finale) Episode 10: Milo Ventimiglia and Catherine Haena Kim starrer ABC series – ‘The Company You Keep’ has reached the end of its first season. The partnership between their characters – Charlie & Emma, brought them closer to understanding the gray shades of morality. Their romantic involvement in each other became an anchor for them to understand each other’s worlds and point-of-views beyond their biases. Over the period, Daphne Finch became a part of a sort of love triangle that spiced up the drama and brought surprising, although believable, changes in their character arcs.
Now the new episode shows Emma, Charlie & Daphne joining hands to take down the Maguire empire and its chair – Patrick Maguire. While the trio makes these adventurous efforts, Fran and Leo learn some shocking details about their deal with Frankie, which shapes their future plan for the bar.

Episode 10: The Truth Hurts
The collar bar had been like a home for the Nicolettis for years. However, because of Frankie’s (Tony Shalhoub), the family contemplates selling the place. Birdie (Sarah Wayne Callies) believes they shouldn’t since it’s their neighborhood and does not want it to change. Anyhow, Frankie keeps persuading Fran (Polly Draper) and Leo (William Fichtner) to sell it. Ollie (Shaylee Mansfield) finds out a pamphlet in Frankie’s bag that reveals his plan to ‘revitalize’ the bar – a way of gentrification by getting existing residents out. The Nicolettis are obviously against this plan. However, instead of confronting Frankie, they decide to con him.
While their family tries to sort out this concern, the Hills are worried about the attack on David’s (Tim Chiou) and Jennifer’s (Andrea Cortés) lives. David worries about who wanted Emma (Catherine Haena Kim) killed since the bomb was placed in her car. Later, he notices people standing outside the hospital, cheering and shouting in support of him. Despite their approval, Joseph (James Saito) and Grace (Freda Foh Shen) do not want David to be pressured by it to pursue a career in politics against his will.
Meanwhile, Emma learns that the CIA is trying to protect their shady connections, especially Dalton Bridges, whom she had targeted through her investigation into the arms deals. It’s clear that some higher op is trying to protect him. Besides, she realizes that she is being tailed, just like her ex-senior colleague, Cas (Josh Braaten).

So, Emma decides she and Charlie (Milo Ventimiglia) should continue behaving like a couple since her agency would rather protect Maguires than protect her. Her colleague, Mason (Courtney Taylor), finds it hard to have an open discussion with her new senior, Garrett (Philip Anthony-Rodriguez), about the case. He does not care for her opinions as Cas did and expects her to follow a strict chain of command. It frustrates her that he can’t even accept a fair argument.
Daphne (Felisha Terrell), Emma & Charlie finally come together to decide their plan to take down the entire Maguire crime syndicate. To make that happen, Patrick (Timothy V. Murphy) needs to be present at the exchange, which seems unlikely considering his murder attempt on Emma’s life. The FBI involvement is also a tricky field considering how Vikram Singh (Sachin Bhatt) had to put his position under threat. So, they figure to manipulate Patrick thinking Connor (Barry Sloane) won’t have things under control and, thus, going for the exchange himself. Patrick was already furious at Connor for the botched bomb.
Meanwhile, Mason sees Daphne, Emma, and Charlie enters the collar bar and figure that they are all working on something together. She calls Emma and ends up getting the facts cleared by her. Since the CIA is getting in the way of handcuffing the Maguires while trying to secure Dalton Bridges, Mason decides to join hands with Emma.
Daphne and Charlie flirt with the idea of romance after their frank conversation about his skills and her future. He says how confidence was the key to getting her to believe the FBI raid in the past. However, that fantasy gets interrupted by Emma’s arrival.
After spending the night together, Emma and Charlie get in a car outside the bar. A van obstructs tailing CIA agents’ view of them. While the couple sneaks out, Birdie and Simon (Geoff Stults) lead those agents to a different place. Charlie tags along with Daphne before Patrick signs the deal at the port. However, Patrick suddenly decides to send Daphne to a different location than earlier promised. He does not let Charlie join her either.
Daphne enters a warehouse to notice Connor pointing a gun at her. He wants revenge since she joined hands with the CIA and also because he sees her as a rival for the empire’s throne. She makes him realize how Patrick would want no one else but himself in charge of the baton. Within that moment of distraction, Emma walks into the warehouse and points a gun at Connor. He jumps down the stairs to save himself from an arrest. Anyhow, Emma manages to save Daphne.
Does Patrick Maguire manage to make a deal with Brad Wilford?
On the other hand, Frankie brings his group of investors to the collar bar to get the deal signed. He takes them to a place near the port where Charlie comes with Patrick. The Maguires are there to meet Brad Wilford for their deal. Only this time, Patrick meets the real Brad Wilford (Michael Gladis) but cannot recognize him.
Charlie decides to use a new technique – clear the air & be truthful. He reveals that he conned Patrick during their earlier meeting. So, while they walk up to the storage unit, Patrick assumes that it is empty. Charlie leads with his Houdini trick. He reveals how he played with Patrick’s perception into thinking everything is a lie while it is the truth.
When the feds start swarming the port, Patrick thinks they are fake FBI officers, just like the last time Charlie raided him. Only this time, they are real FBI operatives who start to shoot the Maguires. Wilford finds a moment to run away from this scene.

Does Patrick Maguire get arrested by the FBI?
The sounds of the shootout between Patrick Maguire’s men and FBI officials get heated. It puts Frankie and his investors on a high alert. While Fran and Leo feign concern for their safety, they all start running away from the port. By then, Emma arrives at the scene to get hold of Patrick Maguire at the scene of the crime. Unfortunately, the roles get reversed, and Charlie notices that Patrick has held Emma at gunpoint. So, he goes to save her and ends up getting shot by Patrick instead.
During their tussle, Vikram and the FBI shoot Patrick dead. Luckily, Charlie does not die because of his bulletproof jacket. While Daphne almost rushes up to Charlie, Emma goes there, which ends up in a heartbreaking moment of her realization that Charlie isn’t in love with her, but with Emma.
Later, Frankie arrives at the collar bar and confronts the Nicolettis for conning him to get the advance amount. Since he continues with his routine of doing good for the neighborhood, Leo and Fran fight back. They know that Frankie lied about his plans with the bar and make him feel ashamed about them.
Charlie and Emma have a word about Dalton Bridges’ involvement in arms dealing. He recognizes another man from a photo she was looking at as a money launderer. Emma knows that Charlie can continue being a good asset and working for the agency. He says he wants an out, as they discussed before.
Why does Emma leave the CIA?
Back at the CIA, Emma gets questioned about disobeying the commands. So, she decides to leave the agency altogether since she does not want to enable or help criminals anymore. Mason overhears it, who is just as angry about the commands from higher echelons. As a result, she and Cas meet Emma, hoping to form a covert unit together.
Do Charlie and Emma end up together in the end?
Birdie and Charlie contemplate using their skills not to earn money anymore but to level the playing field for everyone – to work toward making things more equal. Charlie goes to meet Emma yet again, like how they met the first time in a bar. He shares information on the money launderer they spoke about before. They decide, for the time being, not to share any further details about their work with one another. She points him to another woman, but he says she is not his type. It hints at Emma and Charlie’s romance.
Does David decide to run for the elections or not?
Jennifer West notices that David is leading in numbers after his speech. She encourages him not to let go of his political career. As a result, David announces that he will run only for one term and do all that he can while being truthful.
Did Jennifer lie to the Hills about her involvement in the campaign?
While David steers the conversation with idealism, Jennifer gets a call from her ‘mom.’ She picks up, and the person on the other side praises how she handled David perfectly. ‘Now the real work begins,’ Mom says. Another striking difference is Jennifer speaks in Russian with this woman. Who is this mom that Jennifer called? Let’s hope there’s another season of The Company You Keep to answer that.
